FAQ
1. What is texture paint, and how is it different from normal wall paint?
Texture paint creates a decorative surface with visible patterns and tactile depth, while conventional wall paint typically produces a smooth or flat finish. It adds dimension, movement and architectural character to interior and exterior walls.
Nippon Paint Momento® Sand Dune is a premium water-based decorative texture paint that creates a variety of natural-material-inspired finishes, including cement, stone and timber effects. Different application techniques allow for customised patterns and textures, making it suitable for creating distinctive feature walls.
Textured finishes may also help disguise minor surface unevenness, although cracks, loose plaster and significant wall defects must be repaired before application.
2. Can texture paint be used on both interior and exterior walls?
Yes. Texture paint can be applied to both interior and exterior walls when the product and coating system are suitable for the intended environment.
Nippon Paint Momento® Sand Dune is designed for interior and exterior applications across residential, commercial and hospitality projects. It can be used on feature walls, building façades, entrance walls, hotel lobbies, restaurants and other architectural spaces.
When applied with the recommended coating system, it provides a decorative textured finish with weathering resistance for exterior exposure, including Malaysia's tropical climate. Its water-based, low-odour formulation also makes it a practical option for interior applications.
3. How do I choose the right textured finish for a wall?
Choosing the right textured wall finish depends on the desired appearance, location, colour scheme and overall architectural design.
Subtle textures can create a refined appearance for living rooms, bedrooms and hospitality interiors, while more pronounced patterns can add depth and visual interest to feature walls, entrances and exterior façades.
Nippon Paint Momento® Sand Dune offers up to 17 distinctive texture designs, including Travertine, Stucco Press, Tree Bark, Timber Grain and Tidal. The final appearance depends on the selected colour, lighting, application technique and applicator workmanship. Reviewing physical samples or a trial application is recommended before making a final selection.
4. Can texture paint create a cement, stone or natural-material look?
Yes. Decorative texture paint can recreate the visual characteristics of cement, natural stone, sandstone, timber and other materials through different patterns, colours and application techniques.
Nippon Paint Momento® Sand Dune offers versatile, natural-material-inspired textured finishes, from subtle cement-look surfaces to more pronounced stone-inspired and timber-inspired patterns.
These finishes allow architects, designers and property owners to introduce depth, texture and architectural character to interior feature walls and exterior façades without using the actual natural materials.
5. How do I maintain or refresh a textured wall?
Maintaining a textured wall begins with checking the condition of its texture layer and finishing coat. Dust and light surface dirt should be removed using a cleaning method appropriate for the selected topcoat, without aggressively scrubbing or damaging the textured pattern.
Momento® Sand Dune texture paint forms a layer within a complete paint system and is protected with a compatible interior or exterior topcoat. If the wall is stained, damaged or faded, assess whether it requires cleaning, local texture repair or repainting. Before refreshing the wall, repair loose paint, cracks, moisture-related problems and other substrate defects. Using compatible products and the appropriate finishing method helps preserve the original texture and produce an even, consistent appearance.
